Summer Wind Down: Rock The Bells 2010 - Governors Island, NYC
29 August 2010
Three words: Hip. Hop. Haven. Jumped on a ferry over to the isle where an all day hip-hop festival took place that included Murs+9th Wonder, Rakim, Brother Ali, Slick Rick, and KRs-One - to name a few. The headliners, Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang, and Snoop Dogg performed their most influential albums in their entirety. Ms. Hill made her comeback singing a variation of old hits while also bringing on stage celeb guests Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, John Legend, Mary J., Swizz Beatz, Dave Chappelle, and more, plus all seven of her children during a performance of Zion. ATCQ - leave it at that. My second time seeing them, the Queens crew, performing in their hometown, did a tribute to Midnight Maurauders with a little help from Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz. Wu-Tang followed, crowding the stage with the Clan and performed "Enter the 36 Chambers." Snoop Dogg closed the day with a "Doggystyle" encore. Dope. Dope. Dope.
